The First World War of 1914-1918 was such a tumultuous conflict with repercussions throughout society, that every family in Britain and beyond was affected. After Austria Hungary declared war against Serbia on 28th July 1914, country after country became embroiled, so that the conflict stretched right across Europe to Russia and further afield.

Lancaster & District Family History Group are doing many things to mark the Centenary including producing a publication detailing the area’s fallen, computer workshops at Lancaster Library to help people find out more about the role their ancestors played at that time and Forums where people can tell of their ancestors’ exploits, some of which will be featured on the website in due course.
