Lancaster Family History Group was formed in 1991 when several people with the same interest in researching their family history got together. We wanted to help each other further our research in a friendly, social environment and quickly found that there were a lot of other people wanting to do exactly the same thing.
We meet at:
Bowerham Primary and Nursery School, Bowerham Road, Lancaster, LA1 4BS
Our meetings run from September through to June when Speakers’ topics are centred on genealogy. Every now and then we hold Members’ Forums when members can tell us a little about their own research and occasionally we hold workshops to point people in the right direction. In the summer months we get out and about exploring the places our ancestors knew and find out more about the lives they lived.
Also in the summer months our dedicated band of Monumental Inscription Transcribers note down details from gravestones and memorials in churches, churchyards and cemeteries in Lancaster and outlying areas from which booklets are produced. These are available to purchase at reasonable cost.
Over the years we have built up a comprehensive Library of books to help in family history research and have assembled a collection of resources for the same purpose, all of which members can borrow.
We are members of the Federation of Family History Societies and produce our own popular Newsletter every month except July & August. With membership from all over the UK and overseas our ‘postal’ members are just as valued as our local members who regularly come to our meetings.
